The IRS has reportedly informed MC Hammer and his wife, Stephanie, that they owe almost $800,000 in back taxes. More specifically, the federal government has filed a lien on the couple’s property, alleging that the couple owes $798,033.48 in back taxes for tax years 1996 and 1997. Reportedly, 1996 was a tough time for the once-popular rapper. It was in 1996 that MC Hammer reportedly filed for bankruptcy with about $13 million in debt.
The current allegations against MC Hammer are not the first allegations that Hammer owed the IRS back taxes for income earned in 1996 and 1997. A few years ago, the same allegations surfaced.
While “U Can’t Touch This” is unlikely to be a valid defense to the IRS back-tax claims, MC Hammer has taken to Twitter to defend himself against the IRS allegations. He did the same thing a few years ago when he allegedly owed money to the IRS. This time, Hammer has allegedly told his followers that he paid the IRS and has a receipt.
