You Can't Battle the IRS to a Standstill

Do you remember that old song, “I Fought the Law, and the Law Won?” That pretty much summarizes your prospects for never having to repay your tax debt to the IRS. Maybe you're feeling a little cocky because you think the government has already done its worst—slapping a lien on your home, garnishing your wages, etc.—and you're still on your feet, scratching out a comfortable living, and telling your friends how you met the IRS head-on and fought it to a standstill.

Let's face facts—you're only fooling yourself. What you describe as a “stalemate” status with the government may in fact only be the eye of the proverbial storm. The only reason things seem to be at a standstill is that the feds may have temporarily stopped paying attention to your case (remember, there are thousands of other delinquent taxpayers in the state of Oklahoma) or are assembling the evidence necessary to take your tax dispute to the next level—meaning that you may be facing criminal charges and a lengthy stay in a white-collar prison!

When you're in an ongoing dispute with the federal government, you have to recognize that you have far fewer resources at your disposal—and that the IRS, if it chooses to, can hound you to the ends of the earth. Unless you're a billionaire, there is literally no way you can fight the government to a standstill, especially if the feds can prove that you were in the wrong regarding your tax debt and/or committed active fraud.
